Gems used to sit on your profile doing nothing. As of today they spend in our shop, at one gem to L$1 — no conversion to work out, no exchange rate to check. If something costs L$600, it costs 600 gems.
What they buy
Anything we sell. Huntables, crafting stations, resource nodes — and memberships, so a month of Citizen is 1,250 gems.
The one thing gems can’t buy is more gems: gem packs and gift cards are bought in-world with Linden dollars. Everything else on the shelf is fair game.
Where you spend them
Wherever you were already paying:
- In your basket. Place an order and a “Pay with gems” button appears right there, next to paying our bot in-world.
- On your profile, under Orders, if you’d rather come back to it later.
- On a membership, at the moment you pick a tier and a length.
Nothing goes to Second Life and nothing waits on the bot — the gems are already ours to move, so it’s instant.
How you get them
- Answer somebody’s question in Support & Help Center — 1 gem, and 5 more if your reply is marked as the solution.
- Keep coming back. Seven days in a row is 5 gems, thirty days is 25, a hundred days is 100.
- Buy a pack, if you’d rather not wait: 500, 1,250 or 2,500 gems, at L$1 each. No bulk discount and no fine print — 1,250 gems costs L$1,250, the same as everything else.
Gem packs make good presents
Buying a pack, you can put somebody else’s avatar name in at checkout. The gems land straight on their balance and they get a message telling them who sent it. There’s no code to pass on, nothing to redeem and nothing to lose — it’s just theirs.
Your balance explains itself
Every gem you have has a line on your profile saying where it came from and what you spent it on. If a number ever looks wrong, that page will tell you why — and if it doesn’t, please open a ticket, because that’s a bug we’d want to know about.
