New players have always had the same first problem: the HUD is free and you cannot register without it, but getting it meant being told to teleport somewhere, find a dispenser and click it — before you had the interface that explains any of that.
That is now three steps on a web page, and the whole thing takes about ten minutes from a brand-new Second Life account to gathering your first resources.
Tell the site your avatar name. It sends you a one-time code in-world. You type the code back, and the bot hands you the HUD and meter directly. No shopping trip.
One thing worth saying plainly, because this is Second Life and you should be suspicious of exactly this shape of thing: we message the avatar you name, and nothing else. If a code turns up that you did not ask for, ignore it — receiving one changes nothing on your account. Codes expire after ten minutes.
It is running on the rebuild rather than the live site for now, so this is a progress report rather than an invitation. When it is ready for everyone you will hear about it here first.
