Talking is now worth something

We have just switched on a community reward system across everywhere SL Colonies lives — in-world group chat, Discord, and these forums. It is all connected now, so it does not matter where you turn up. Turning up is the point.

Two things you can earn

Social points are for taking part. Chat in the group in Second Life, chat in Discord, post here on the forums — it all counts, and it counts the same wherever you are.

They are not a trophy. Social points are spent as energy before your energy is, so an evening of company pays for a morning in a field. They cap at 100 and they do not decay, so there is no point grinding them: fill up, go spend them on something, come back.

  • A line of chat: 1 point
  • A reply on the forums: 2 points
  • Starting a new topic here: 5 points

Gems are for achieving. They come from helping people, from keeping a streak going, and occasionally from someone feeling generous. Unlike social points, gems keep.

Turn up day after day and the streaks pay: 7 days is 5 gems, 30 days is 25, and 100 days is 100.

Commands

Type these in Discord or in the group in Second Life — both work, and the answer comes back to you on the surface you asked from.

What you have
!gems · !social · !rank

Earning
!forage (five minutes between tries) · !dig (once an hour) · !brew (twenty minutes between tries) · !work (twice an hour)

None of them always pay. That is rather the point.

Together — these need other people, so bring some
!hunt · !raid · !duel · !trivia · !toast · !tavern

Fun
!weather (invented) · !rumour (gossip) · !flip (wager gems on a coin toss — even odds, and the house takes nothing)

Not sure about one? Type !help for the list, or !help brew and it will explain what it does, what it costs, and how long you wait between goes.

Asking for your own balance does not pay. !gems all afternoon earns you exactly nothing.

Everything is joined up now

  • In-world group chat and Discord are the same conversation. Say something in the group and it appears in Discord; say something in Discord and it reaches the group.
  • Support reaches you wherever you are. Open a ticket in-world by IMing the bot or touching a help post, from Discord, or from the website — and answer it from any of them. A mentor replying in Discord reaches you in Second Life, and now it comes with their name on it, so you know who you are talking to.
  • You can send screenshots with a ticket from the website. A picture of the thing that is broken saves ten sentences describing it.
  • The forums count too. Answering somebody’s question here is worth gems, not just goodwill.

One thing worth knowing

If your social points are sitting at 100, you have hit the cap and you are earning nothing until you spend some. That is deliberate — it means somebody chatting all day cannot out-earn somebody who plays. Go and use them.

Questions, bugs, or something behaving oddly? Reply here, or open a ticket from anywhere. It all ends up in the same place.
