The Smelter does two jobs. It forms ingots from mined ore for the forge and the mint — and it blows glass bottles from sand and a mould, which is thirteen of the eighteen recipes below and the half nobody expects.
The metal ladder climbs with the profession: iron at level 0, copper and steel at 1, silver at 2, gold at 3. Steel is the expensive one — 20 iron ore and 4 coal, ten minutes.
Two things that cost people ore. Every ingot spoils within a day, so smelt metal to order; the glass does not. And a craft you cannot afford still consumes what went in, so check your inventory before pressing craft.
