[FARMABLES] Herb Garden

The herb garden is eight separate plots in one object. Every other field grows one crop across the whole plot; this one grows up to eight different herbs at once, each on its own timer.

What makes it different

  • Eight plots, worked one at a time.
  • No seeds. You plant the herb itself.
  • Five harvests per plot, and roughly five to ten herb per harvest.
  • It pays Herbalist crafting experience.

The five stages, per plot

1. Plough — needs a hoe. 10 energy per plot, so all eight costs 80.

2. Plantno tool at all. You plant the herb you are carrying, and the plot names what you put in it. Around forty herbs are accepted, chamomile, yarrow, lavender, sage, mint, thyme, rosemary, basil and foxglove among them.

3. Water — needs a clay jar and water.

4. Growingseven days per plot.

5. Harvest — needs a small basket. It spends one point of the basket’s durability, the same as the vineyard.

Each stage pays 10 Herbalist crafting experience.

Where the first herb comes from

You cannot buy herb seed, because there is no herb seed. To plant a herb you need one of that herb already. Two ways to get the first:

  • Forage. The compass has a herb menu — search for a named herb or for whatever is nearby.
  • Buy one from another player on the marketplace.

After that the garden feeds itself: five harvests of five to ten herb from one planted herb leaves plenty to replant with.

What they are for

Cooking and butchery — herbs go into the cooking station, and into cured and smoked meats. And alchemy, where they are the base of every potion. Those recipes are invented by the players who scribe them and are not published here.
