[ESSENTIALS] Mailbox

The mailbox lets one colonist send another a letter, an item, or a bill — across the sim, across the grid, and to somebody who is not online.

Sending

Left-click and choose Send mail. Pick a recipient from your favourites, or search the whole player database by name. Write your message and send it.

The recipient gets a mail icon on their HUD the moment it lands, wherever they are.

Reading

Left-click any mailbox and choose Check mail — one click, not two, or you will pause the display. Unread mail is coloured; read mail is not. Open it, and delete it when you are done.

There is a moon icon for a dark theme, and it remembers which you chose.

Sending things, not just words

Add item to mail attaches anything in your inventory. Coins, tools, crops, a finished weapon. It does not have to be SLC coin either — any currency you are carrying, from any sim’s economy, can go in the post.

The recipient opens the mail and claims the item into their inventory.

Cash on delivery

Before you send, there is a COD button. Set a price and the recipient has to pay it before the item is released. SLC coin only, for now.

This is what turns the mailbox into a trade route. Somebody writes to your smith asking for clay jars; the smith makes them, posts them COD, and gets paid on collection. No meeting, no vendor, no standing about waiting for each other to log in.

Making it yours

The mailbox is fully modifiable. There are two prims: the main prim is the yellow one, and it must stay the root. Stretch it, move it, or unlink it and attach it to any mesh you like.

The scripts are copy, but they only work in the main prim made by the support bot. Put them in a child prim, or in something we did not create, and they disable themselves. You will have to start again.

Hold left-click for a couple of seconds and release for the owner menu: set the mailbox name, and choose which lines of hover text to show and in what colour.

Across regions and across grids

You do not need to be on the same sim as the person you are writing to. It works region to region, and it works between grids — including our own OSGrid build of the Counter Earth.

That is the part worth planning around. Anything your alt gathers on the Counter Earth can be posted back to your Second Life character.
