Cultivating Fairness for Every Farming Parcel

Dear SL Colonies Team,

I’d like to share a concern that comes from a place of appreciation for all the care and creativity that’s gone into building this system.

As someone who plays on smaller parcels, I’ve noticed that the current structure—where field size significantly impacts output—can feel discouraging. While I understand the need for balance in gameplay, it can be disheartening when land availability becomes a limiting factor in enjoying the full depth of the farming experience.

Many of us deeply invested in this world are creating with heart and purpose, regardless of the land size we can afford. I believe that dedication and effort should feel equally valued across the board.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this perspective. My hope is simply to open the door to a conversation about how all players, no matter the space they farm in, might feel more equally supported.

“The current system inadvertently prioritizes the quantity of land over the quality of player engagement. Players on Linden-owned or smaller parcels invest just as much effort into farming, recipe crafting, and roleplay—yet are rewarded less, not for lack of dedication, but due to space limitations.”

With respect and appreciation, Regina

Hello @regina.calidius

I’ve gone ahead and delivered myself a new small and large field and confirm they are completely modifiable.

I was able to unlink the master prim from a small field, link and resize the master prim from a large field and get a perfect working large field in the size of a small.

The only different however is that you will still be ploughing the large field and still go through that animation and it wont look as natural, but you will have the capacity of the large field in the package of a small

If you have your own mesh, you wouldn’t need to have both a small and large field at hand to do this mod. If you know how to create mesh and look into each part of a field, you should be able to produce something custom to suit your theme and needs.

The main importance from my looking into it briefly is:

  • Master Prim
  • field_small_base (main dirt)
  • fallow (top layer that goes invisible while ploughing/hoe)
  • grain (growing mesh which displays texture of the plant chosen)

The medium and large fields also have the animation and pose ball for the ploughing and sit pose. Those are not currently edit, but we can look into that for those of you with the ability to do animations etc.

We can probably also look into making the field parts copy so you don’t have to go through the trouble of purchasing multiple small fields just to be able to use the mesh from the small fields… Or offering a copy/no transfer pack of just the mesh parts for all field types.

Hello @regina.calidius and @SamuelLison
I confess that I suffer a lot from the problem of @regina.calidius too, I only have large fields and short the animations and such … However with the limitations of small terrain, I had to abdicate to wearing them. I buy cereals and etc, when I need.
I once edited a small field to diminish it even more, but during the work processes somewhere it returned to the original. My attempt for a while. Then I intend to test a large land, if I destroy it, I think the update platform in the store makes the exchange, right?
I love trying to edit everything… I stop suffering with the barrels for a while and turn to the fields… it’s good that I rest my mind… lol
Thanks @regina.calidius for the post, this subject was stuck in my throat.
Excuse my translator’s English.
Long live and prosper SLC!

my experience at this time transferring the first root from the large field to the small field… and yes the plow worked as if it were the large field… far away… but ok I expected that…

The plough and Animations are part of the API, they can be changed by the Owner, It just takes the know how to do it, you can change the animation movement and timings in the NC for ploughing,

Thanks for your attention… the notecard is NO MODY, if it were open I would have already moved it  but at the moment I’m going to wait until the end of the procedure because I want to see how far the lot will go up and especially the plantation… the API script is open but I think you said you would only teach something about it in the future, no problem, the recent news has been great!

Guys, just for the record, I canceled my “personal project” of field deconfiguration! I tried to change the fields in the updates platform at headquarters, but it didn’t accept it, so I challenged myself and reconstructed them… it was fun… lol

Wait a second. The image you shared above looks like a stretched field? Did you put the large main prim onto a small, or did you try resize the whole large field into something?

Well… I just removed the root prim from the large field, reducing its size to fit in the small field. Since I had dismantled the entire small field, when I put it back together, I messed up the order of the links. I assumed it was because I saw the soil growing instead of the crop. I took other new fields, placed them next to it and corrected the order of the links.
prim 1 - root [SLC]
prim 2 - grain
prim 3 - base
prim 4 - fallow

and since fixing that, your configured small fields work and yielding you large field? Except of course the weird ploughing animation, but all good?

no no, they are working as original, the small one renders as small and the large one renders as large field. I did not insist due to the settings of the plow animations, even after discovering the need to link the parts in the correct order, as I mentioned above
