[CRAFTABLES] Logging Station

The Logging Station is the woodsman’s bench and the start of nearly every wooden thing in the colony. Trees become logs, logs become planks, and planks become everything the carpenter makes.

No tool needed

Unusually, you do not have to bring anything. The tool is built into the station. Walk up, left-click, and work.

The doubling ladder

This is the whole station in one line, and it is worth seeing before you cut anything:

1 log → 2 large planks → 4 medium → 8 small → 40 wood scraps

Every step halves the size and doubles the count. One log, followed all the way down, is forty wood scraps.

Step Level Time Yield
Log → large plank 0 30s 2
Large → medium 1 1m 2
Medium → small 1 1m 2
Small → wood scraps 1 1m 5

The wall everybody hits

Look at that level column again. Only the first step is level 0.

A woodsman who has not levelled can turn logs into large planks and nothing else. Everything below that — medium, small, scraps — is level 1. If you are stuck holding large planks and wondering why you cannot go further, that is why.

Four woods, and the choice matters

Oak, fir, maple and cherry all run the full ladder. Which you cut is not cosmetic: the Carpentry Bench and the Furniture Station both care what a part is made of, and harder woods make furniture that survives more hits.

Sixteen recipes in total, and nothing here spoils — so mill in batches and stockpile. There is no penalty for cutting ahead.

Where it all goes

Effectively the entire output feeds the Carpentry Bench, where small oak plank alone appears in 35 recipes. Oak wood scraps go there too, and become the handles the smiths need.

Mill before anyone sits down at a bench, not after they ask.
