[CRAFTABLES] Furniture Station

The Furniture Station is the only bench whose output you rez and actually live with — and the only one whose output somebody can come along and destroy.

Three recipes, and none of them has ingredients

The station carries exactly three: bed, chair and cushion. All level 0, all ten minutes, and none of them lists a fixed ingredient.

That is the point. What comes out depends entirely on what you feed in, so every finished piece is its builder’s own design rather than a row from a list.

You need a carpenter’s hammer on you to work it.

The parts

Piece Parts
Cushion 3 — cushioned seat, frame, cover
Chair 5 — cover, seat, legs, cushion, back
Bed 6 — headboard, footboard, bed frame, sheets, blanket, and the base

The wooden parts are cut at the Carpentry Bench, which holds 99 of them across oak, fir and maple. The covers, sheets and blankets come up the seamstress line from the Loom.

A tip from the video: when you are building a bed, do not start with the sheets. Nothing displays until the bed frame is on.

The wood is the health of the thing

This is what makes furniture a trade rather than decoration.

Furniture in SL Colonies can be attacked. Any SLC weapon damages it. A plain oak bed carries around 60 durability, and harder woods carry more — so the wood you choose is not only how it looks.

  • A damaged piece can be repaired: long left-click it and repair.
  • A destroyed piece is gone for good. Somebody has to build another one.

That is the demand side of the furniture trade, and it is deliberate.

Better sheets are a trade-off, not an upgrade

The textiles decide what the piece does for you — a bed regenerates energy per tick and takes fatigue off you.

Move up from linen to silk and those numbers get better. But the durability gets worse, so a luxurious bed wears through faster and needs re-covering sooner. You can change the linen and blankets later without rebuilding the whole thing.

It arrives as a crate

Finished furniture is given to you as a no-copy, no-modify crate. Open the box, take the object out, rez it, and click it to assemble — it pulls your materials and textures together and becomes the piece you designed.

One thing to understand before you rez. Once a piece is rezzed it leaves the database, and it can no longer be sold through vendors or the marketplace. So if you are making furniture to sell, sell it in the crate. Rez only what you intend to keep.

Living with it

Long left-click a rezzed piece and you can rename it, reset it, link signs to it, turn the hover text off, swap the linen or blankets, and repair it.
