A mash tun does one thing: it turns starch into fermentable sugar. Grain, fruit or root goes in with water, and an hour later you have a mash — the base of every alcoholic drink in the colonies. Nothing here is level-gated, so you can run one from your first day.
The inputs come from other trades. Malt is cooked at the Cooking Station, and the tun is where most of it ends up; juices are pressed at the Wine Press; water and hops you grow or gather. The output has one customer, the Fermentor, and past that the distillery, the aging barrels and bottling. The official list below is short — most working recipes are player-written.
Newcomers tend to mash too early. A batch takes an hour and then keeps only a day, so start one when a fermentor is free, not before. Stock water first: it appears in roughly two-thirds of the recipes here.
