An aging barrel takes a drink that is already finished and makes it better for you. Not stronger — the distillery does that — but higher in health, energy, thirst, fatigue and the rest.
It works on anything with a drunk stat, which is the part most people miss: a bottle bought off the Marketplace ages exactly as well as one you brewed. Buy an ordinary wine, wait, and sell it as a vintage under your own name.
Load the drink with a matching measure of wood chips and leave it. Oak guarantees energy, fir guarantees fatigue, and the rest cover blood and more as the trees arrive — a guaranteed point in that stat every week, on top of the improvement the barrel makes anyway.
Nearly everything the barrel takes in comes from the Fermentor or the Distillery, and nearly everything it turns out goes on to bottling. It is a middle link in the drinks chain, not a starting point.
Time is the real cost. The two recipes below ship with the game and finish in under a minute — everything past them is yours to work out. A barrel will hold a drink for an afternoon or for years, and the longer it sits the better it gets. Start short, keep chips in stock, and do not put your only bottle of something rare into a barrel you will not open for a long while.
