[GATHERABLES] Sand Pit

The sand pit is the bulk version of sand. It fills itself over 24 hours and then hands you the whole day’s worth in one click, instead of one sand at a time.

What it is

There is already a single sand gatherable, and it gives you one sand per gather. The pit works the way a water tower does — a water tower gives 240 water a day to a barrel, and the pit gives 240 sand a day to a large bag.

Over the course of 24 hours the sand inside the pit builds up until it is heaped and full. Collect it and the pit resets to zero, and starts filling again.

What it feeds

Sand goes to the smelter, which turns it into glass bottles and the like. Those bottles are what the bottling station wants for the brewing process. If your region brews, it needs sand, and it needs more than one gather at a time.

The tool

You need a large bag. Left-click the pit without one and it checks for the appropriate tool, does not find it, and will not let you gather.

Large bags are made from reed at the basketweaving station. Use the tool so it is in your hand, then left-click the pit and it takes the sand.

Collecting early

You do not have to wait for it to be full. If there is one sand in there, you can take that one sand.

Be aware of what it costs, though. A click spends one durability off your large bag whether you are collecting 240 sand or 1. So most people leave it until it is full rather than burn through bags for a handful of sand. Entirely up to you.

The owner menu

Long left click the pit, standing within 5 metres, and you get the owner menu:

  • Reset — for when it is misbehaving.
  • Change name — it ships as SLC Sandbox. Rename it to Sand Pit, or to anything you like, and that becomes the item’s name.
  • Link a sign — attach a progress sign to it.
  • Hover text — set the colour, or turn the hover text off entirely.

Making it fit

Fully modifiable. Right-click and edit and you can stretch it or shrink it to whatever size your build wants.

Go further with edit linked parts and you will find a master prim inside it. The sand follows that prim — move the master prim and the sand moves with it. From there you have options:

  • Detach the master prim and attach it to a mesh of your own, if you want a different design entirely.
  • Leave the master prim where it is and detach only certain parts, keeping the sand growing inside your own pit.
  • Or leave the sand out of the display altogether, if you would rather it did not show as growing.
