The vegetable field is the only field with six stages. The extra one is fertilising, and it is what ties the vegetable plot to the pigs.
Three sizes
| Harvests per cycle | Working range | |
|---|---|---|
| Large Vegetable Field | 10 | 15 m |
| Medium Vegetable Field | 5 | 15 m |
| Small Vegetable Field | 1 | 5 m |
The six stages
1. Plough — needs a plough. 50 energy.
2. Fertilise — needs a large bag and fertiliser. The large bag is made at the basketweaving station. The fertiliser is made at the compost bin out of pig dung.
3. Seed — needs a seed bag:
cabbage · carrot · tomato · lettuce · onion · yellow onion · pea · cucumber · bell pepper
4. Water — needs a clay jar and water.
5. Growing — seven days.
6. Harvest — needs a sickle and a harvest bag.
Each stage pays 10 Farmer crafting experience.
The pig, the compost bin and the field
This is the loop worth planning around, because the fertiliser stage will stop you dead otherwise:
- A pig produces dung, collectable once an hour.
- Two dung into a compost bin makes one fertiliser, and that takes about three and a half hours.
- A field wants 10 fertiliser.
So a field’s fertiliser is roughly a day and a half of one compost bin’s output. Farmers who run vegetables tend to compost in bulk well ahead of ploughing rather than starting the chain when the plot is already turned.
