Below that the craft fails and the ingredients are gone. Level up at a levelling station in the main store before you put a cow in.

The video is out of date. It shows the bull taking a dairy cow and nothing else. The recipe was changed since: it now wants grain and water as well, in the quantities above. The recipe page is generated from the game database and is always the current version.
The grain all comes off your own fields. Forgetting the cow itself is the usual mistake — it is an ingredient like any other.
Where the first cow comes from
A cow bought from the marketplace is a physical object. The bull wants an inventory one. If you have none, the crafting-experience store in the main store sells a dairy cow for CXP, and that arrives as an inventory item you can feed straight in.
To put an inventory cow on your land, go to your inventory and choose res rather than view.
Why it is a station and not a breedable
Twenty breeding scripts on a sim is twenty scripts of lag. Breeding happens inside one crafting station instead, so the cows standing on your land are cheap objects rather than running simulations.
Theft
Anyone can collect a finished craft. Be there when it is due.
