A root prim turns furniture you already own into SL Colonies furniture. Drop one into your own chair, couch or bed and sitting on it starts restoring energy, health and fatigue — without giving up the piece you actually want in your house.
What they restore
| Energy | Health | Fatigue | Item health | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chair root | +6 | +2 | +1 | 100 |
| Bed root | +1 | +4 | +8 | 250 |
Chairs are for energy, beds are for fatigue. These are fixed — a root prim is a sensible default, not an upgrade path. Furniture crafted in the game does better, because the carpentry wood decides its health and the seamstress’s sheets decide what it restores.
Copy or No Copy — pick the one that matches
There are two versions and buying the wrong one wastes the money.
- Copy / no transfer — for furniture you own and keep. Most Second Life furniture is copy/no-transfer, so this is the one most people need.
- No copy / transfer — for furniture you intend to sell on, if you build mesh yourself.
The permissions have to match the furniture you are linking to. Second Life refuses to link a no-copy prim to a no-transfer object; you will get “cannot link no copy with no transfer” and nothing else will happen.
Linking it — the part that goes wrong
The SL Colonies prim must end up as the master prim. If it is not, nothing works.
- Rez the root prim and sit on it. That is the easy way to nudge it into position — you can see exactly where you are placing it.
- Stand, then position it over or inside the furniture.
- Select your furniture first. Then shift-click the SL Colonies prim last. Then link.
Order is everything. Link them the other way round and yes, they are linked — but your furniture’s own prim is the master and the scripts sit dormant in a child. You can tell at a glance: edit the set, and the master prim is outlined in yellow while everything else is blue. The yellow one must be ours.
When it is right, the object takes on the root prim’s name and its description fills with the restore values.
Hiding it
Set the box’s texture to a transparent texture. Do not use the transparency slider.
That is not fussiness. When damaged furniture respawns it resets transparency to 0%, and a box hidden with the slider reappears solid in the middle of your living room. A transparent texture survives it.
Then left-click and turn hover text off, or pick which lines show.
Furniture with its own animations
If your couch already has animations you would rather keep, open the SL Colonies box and delete its AV sitter script and animations — everything except the items named SLC, which the scripts need.
Link as above and it keeps its own poses. Right-clicking the part of the couch with the animation prim sits you normally; the SL Colonies menu is still there on left-click.
Damage and repair
Furniture can be destroyed by other players, which makes raids mean something.
- Damage is permanent until repaired. Knock a chair to 90 and it stays at 90 for the next visitor.
- Repairing costs ten wood scraps per ten health, of any wood type. Left-click as owner and the repair menu appears.
- At zero the piece is destroyed. It vanishes, goes phantom, and returns after one hour.
Chairs have 100 health, beds 250. Crafted furniture, made from better wood, has more.
