The Compost Bin does exactly one thing, and it does it slowly. Two dung go in, one fertiliser comes out, and the run takes three and a half hours.
Where the dung comes from
Off your pigs. You scoop it with a small basket — the same tool you gather clay, sand and fruit with, woven at the Basketweaving Station.
That is the whole appeal of this station: it turns the least appealing thing on the parcel into the thing the fields want, from livestock you were already keeping.
The one recipe
| Recipe | Takes | Level | Time | Makes | XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fertilizer | 2 dung | 0 | 3h 30m | 1 | 10 |
Do the arithmetic before you commit. Two into one is a harsh ratio and three and a half hours is a long run:
| Dung in | Fertiliser out | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 1 | 3h 30m |
| 20 | 10 | ~1.5 days |
| 100 | 50 | a little over a week |
This is a station you set going and walk away from. It is not something you top up between other jobs.
Farmer or not
Anyone can run the bin. A farmer banks the recipe and earns crafting experience for it; everyone else has to enter the ingredients by hand every single time and learns nothing for the trouble.
Your dung has a second buyer
Worth knowing before you tip the lot into the bin: the leather tanner wants dung too — one per animal hide and one per prepared hide. If somebody in the colony is working leather, you are both reaching into the same pile.
