Something to hit that tells you what landed — find your range before you need it.
What it is for
A weapon’s stats only mean something once you have swung it. The dummy takes hits from any SLC weapon and reports the damage, so you can test a new blade — or a freshly sharpened one — somewhere that costs you nothing.
It is also the fastest way to see what sharpness is actually doing for you. Hit it with a dull weapon, sharpen, hit it again, and the difference is on screen.
Hitting it
You must be in mouselook. Hold the left mouse button and tap a direction:
- W — strike forward
- S — back strike
- D — right strike
Range is the part that catches people
Stand too close and you will swing straight through it and register nothing at all. Nothing is broken; you are simply inside the weapon’s reach.
Back off slightly until the hits start landing, and they will keep landing from there. Different weapons want different distances, and a slaughter knife is much fussier than a sword.
Finding that distance on a dummy is a great deal cheaper than finding it on a monster.
What it reports
Each landed hit reports its damage, elemental damage included. If your weapon carries an element, you will see it come through separately from the physical damage.
Where it sits
The practice dummy is one of the three benches in the Weapon Kit, alongside the Sharpening Stone and the Weapon Repair Bench. It is sold on its own for anyone who only needs somewhere to practise.
